Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions
(SPACE)
Is your child struggling with anxiety, excessive worries, fears, or obsessive-compulsive behaviors? Do you find yourself constantly reassuring your child, adjusting family routines, or helping them avoid situations that trigger anxiety?
You may feel like you've tried everything to help, yet anxiety continues to interfere with your child's daily life.
SPACE offers a different approach. Instead of requiring your child to change, treatment begins by empowering you as a parent.
What is SPACE Treatment?
SPACE is an evidence-based, parent focused approach to treating childhood anxiety. It was developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center. The treatement is designed to help children and adolescents struggling with anxiety, OCD, and related difficulties.
Through structured sessions, parents learn practical strategies to respond differently to their child's anxiety, reduce patterns that unintentionally maintain anxiety, and encourage greater confidence.
Who can Benefit from SPACE?
SPACE is helpful for caregivers of children and adolescents experiencing:
-
Separation Anxiety
-
Generalized Anxiety
-
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
-
Social Anxiety
-
Specific Phobias/Fears
Additionally, SPACE can be especially helpful for children who may be unable or unwilling to participate in traditional individual therapy.
