Child reading a book with teddy bear – promoting literacy, mindfulness, and emotional learning for children

Therapeutic Children's Books and Helpful Links

When I was a kid, I was convinced books had secret superpowers. They could turn a bad day into an adventure, make scary things less scary, and help me understand emotions I didn’t even have words for yet. Turns out, I wasn’t wrong!

Now, as a child psychologist (and children’s book author!), I get to see firsthand how powerful stories can be for young minds. Some kids talk it out. Some draw it out. And some? They need a story that understands them before they even understand themselves.

Below, you’ll find a list of my favorite mental health-related children’s books—stories that spark courage, build resilience, and help kids better understand their identity, behaviors, and navigate big feelings. The list includes reads about anxiety, OCD, ADHD, self-confidence, and friendships.

Sometimes, a story isn’t just a story—it’s exactly what a child needs to feel seen, understood, and a little less alone.

Check back regularly, as I update my reading list frequently!
